    Development of A Smart Mirror System Based on Kansei Engineering for Enhanced User Experience

    Abstract
    Smart devices have become an integral component of modern daily life due to their ability to interact, connect, and exchange information within intelligent environments. These emerging technologies have been followed by another innovation that has attracted growing interests – smart mirrors. These offer a platform that integrates traditional reflection with cutting-edge technology. This review focuses on Kansei Engineering concepts that have been adopted in smart mirror technology and its emphasis on psychological factors that provide enhanced user experience. This review discusses existing literature on aspects such as interaction methods, Internet of Things technology integration, applications involving affective computing, and intelligent perception methods. The results reveal that voice interaction provides better usability and convenience compared to touch interaction technologies that can be limited in moisture-rich conditions. Also, the Internet of Things-enabled smart mirror systems greatly enhance system functionality by incorporating real-time information query capability and cooperation between systems and devices seamlessly. Vision related neural network models further improve the interaction process by incorporating features like face recognition, observation, and awareness. Affective computing methods prominently improve user engagement and satisfaction by enabling systems to change according to the users’ emotional conditions at any given time. Kansei Engineering methodology allows for effective conversion of subjective emotional demands to design parameters by properly integrating human-centric designs and system implementation. Furthermore, issues like privacy, security, and ethics are proved to play highly relevant roles within emotional trust issues for comfort and acceptance of smart mirror systems designed for various self-care requirements.
