<title>Effectiveness of rehabilitation and counseling for disabled soldiers in the Sri Lanka Army:</title>
<link>https://ir.kdu.ac.lk/handle/345/9025</link>
<description>Effectiveness of rehabilitation and counseling for disabled soldiers in the Sri Lanka Army:
De Silva, AKCS
This research examines the effectiveness of rehabilitation and counseling practices for disabled soldiers in the Sri Lanka Army. It aims to address their physical and psychological needs, which arose primarily from the long-lasting conflict with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). Recognizing the heavy toll of the conflict, which left many soldiers with permanent disabilities, this study underscores the critical importance of rehabilitation efforts for these veterans’ reintegration into society. The objectives of the study include evaluating the success of existing physical rehabilitation, vocational training, and psychological counseling programs. Furthermore, it assesses the dissemination practices for informing veterans and their families about available support services. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research integrates quantitative data collected via surveys and standardized questionnaires with qualitative insights from indepth interviews and focus groups. The study focuses on key rehabilitation centers, including Ranaviru Sevana Ragama, Headquarter Battalion Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and Mihindu Seth Madura Aththidiya. Findings reveal that while physical rehabilitation programs demonstrate significant efficacy, psychological support for veterans remains challenging due to social stigma, inconsistent service dissemination, and mental health complexities like PTSD and depression. The study emphasizes that effective counseling and a systematic approach to service dissemination are essential to meet veterans’ comprehensive needs. Recommendations are provided for enhancing service accessibility and quality, including increased mental health support. vocational training, and community engagement. This research holds significance not only for the well-being of disabled veterans but also for their successful reintegration into society, thereby promoting social cohesion and honoring their sacrifices. The findings serve to inform military policy and guide improvements in veteran support services, ensuring a holistic approach to rehabilitation that fosters independence, resilience, and a higher quality of life.

<description>An exploration study of the impact of education on employee performance with reference to the regimental center of Sri Lanka Sinha regiment
Abeykoon, AMC
This research is focused on to investigate the performance deficiencies among officers and other rankers at the Regimental Centre Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment. The primary development of the study was to study upon on the key areas of knowledge, skills, attitudes, and actions (KASA). Through the previous literature assessment and review — it was evident that these four factors play a strong role in attaining with the given conditions of human behavior. Especially within the past decade, after the end of civil war — the dynamics of the Sri Lanka military has changed. Therefore, its considerable changing nature has also to be taken into this study. Thus by using a mixed-methods approach, this research analyzed both quantitative and qualitative data to identify the root causes of underperformance and provide actionable insights for improvement. The study highlighted that there are significant issues related to the misalignment between training programs and operational needs. Followed along with the insufficient development of technical skills, low motivation, and gaps in overall direction on the work. Hence despite the considerable investment in welfare and training, the Regimental Centre's personnel struggle with both administrative tasks and mission preparedness. This in return is impacting the operational efficiency. The overall quantitative analysis of the correlation and regression analyses revealed that the skills and abilities are strong predictors of performance. While the thematic analysis underscores the need for a proactive attitude and accountability within the military context. Thereby the findings emphasize the importance of the tailored training and the leadership development to foster resilience, adaptability, and accountability among personnel. The overall recommendations for enhanced training, welfare services, and continuous learning aim to bridge performance gaps, this will be supporting the Regiment’s mission readiness and serving as a model for similar regiments in the Sri Lanka Army.

<title>Analysing the key determinants and strategies in promoting Sigiriya as a sustainable tourist destination in Sri Lanka</title>

<description>Analysing the key determinants and strategies in promoting Sigiriya as a sustainable tourist destination in Sri Lanka
Shanthasiri Gamage, Waruna
Sigiriya, an ancient rock fortress in Sri Lanka, is not only a UNESCO World Heritage Site but also a significant cultural and historical landmark. As tourism continues to grow globally, promoting Sigiriya as a sustainable tourist destination is crucial for preserving its unique heritage while benefiting the local economy. This research aims to analyze the key determinants and strategies for promoting Sigiriya sustainably, considering the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) criteria. Sustainable tourism is vital for destinations like Sigiriya due to its ecological sensitivity and cultural significance. The influx of tourists can lead to environmental degradation, loss of biodiversity, and erosion of cultural identity if not managed properly. By adopting sustainable practices, Sigiriya can enhance visitor experiences while ensuring the conservation of its natural and historical resources. This approach aligns with global trends towards responsible travel, where tourists increasingly seek authentic experiences that contribute positively to local communities. Several key determinants influence the promotion of Sigiriya as a sustainable tourist destination. Firstly, stakeholder engagement is essential; collaboration among government bodies, local communities, and private sector players can facilitate effective management strategies. Secondly, infrastructure development must prioritize sustainability—improving accessibility while minimizing environmental impact is critical. Thirdly, marketing strategies should highlight Sigiriya’s unique attributes and promote eco-friendly practices among visitors. Several challenges hinder the sustainable promotion of Sigiriya. Overcrowding during peak seasons can strain resources and diminish the visitor experience. Additionally, inadequate waste management systems pose significant risks to both the environment and public health. There is also a need for capacity building within local communities to empower them as active participants in tourism development rather than passive recipients of its benefits. Therefore, to address these challenges effectively, this research proposes several strategies grounded in GSTC criteria.

<title>An analytical approach for optimization of supplier lead-time of forign procurements of Sri Lanka Air Force:</title>
<link>https://ir.kdu.ac.lk/handle/345/9022</link>
<description>An analytical approach for optimization of supplier lead-time of forign procurements of Sri Lanka Air Force:
Atapattu, AMGSB
In general, procurement on time is crucial to retain the operational readiness of the SLAF. Foreign-procured aircraft spares are especially important in light of maintaining the fleets. Due to extended lead times of foreign procurement, spares availability cannot keep pace with such demand; hence, SLAF operational efficiency is affected. This research study discusses, analytically, the factors influencing supplier lead times while developing an optimal approach to provisioning aircraft spares for the SLAF. The financial instability, political considerations, logistics constraints, and technology challenges are the four significant factors analysed in this research in relation to the procurement lead time. Data were obtained through a structured survey from SLAF logistics officers directly involved in procurement. The effect of each factor on the lead time was studied by employing statistical analyses such as regression and correlation, while optimization models provided strategic solutions to mitigate the delays. The findings reveal that financial instability, like currency and inflation fluctuations, contributes a lot to lead times through unpredicted changes in prices and delays in making payments. On the other hand, there are also political influences, such as trade restrictions and customs regulations, where other time-consuming elements are added. Logistic impediments also hinder this timely procurement process, including hitches in transportation. Likewise, technological barriers, such as problems in the compatibility of systems, have also become a source of delay, which underlines the need for smooth digital procurement systems. It therefore contributes to the operational preparedness of the SLAF by providing data-driven insights and recommendations that reduce lead times in procurement. The practical solutions entail stronger practices in mitigating financial risks, effective communication with suppliers, and the adoption of a digital procurement system. These factors, once addressed, provide a framework through which the study optimizes the procurement process of the SLAF for timely spares availability and enhancement of mission capability.
